The Cinoart PT2 is a relative newcomer to the scene, but boasts some very impressive specs, and even more innovative technology. In this video, we take a close look at the Cinoart PT2, and discuss my experience with having it on my home espresso bar.

The Precision Tamp 2 (PT2) is an effective automatic tamping solution for efficiency, consistency, and flavour development when producing espresso.

Smart Tamping

Hugely beneficial on the espresso bar, the PT2 takes minimal space, eases the workload on the Barista, and produces precise and consistent tamping across varying baristas. Safety considered, the PT2 only operates when metal activates the sensor removing the risk of human contact.

Guide Levelling System (GLS)

The patent GLS autocorrects an uneven portafilter handle into the correct position for an evenly distributed and perfectly flat coffee bed surface. This ultimately prevents channelling caused by inconsistent and or uneven tamping angles and pressures avoiding under or over-extraction.

Segmented Multi Tamping

Segmented multi tamping can be programmed over 1 -3 pressure applications, with a range from 2 kg to 38 kg. This feature delivers incredible control and options to experiment with multiple tamps at different pressures within a tamp cycle to explore and further develop your coffee.

Example: 1st Tamp value set at (e.g.) 8 kg followed by the 2nd Tamp at (e.g.) 30 kg of pressure or any value combination in between 2 kg – 38 kg.

3 Pre-Set Buttons help to quick switch to the Pre-Set Pressure&Tamps,

Tamps Button(Up/Down),

Press Tamps Button(Up/Down) to adjust the Tamping Times 1, 2 or 3,

Pressure Button(Up/Down),

Press Pressure Button(Up/Down) to adjust the Pressure between 2kg~38kg,

Save&Clean Button(Dn-UP),

Press Save&Clean Button(Dn-UP),

Single press: save changed value(Pressure&Tamps).

Long Press(Clean Model): the tamper disk will going down, And

Long Press again it will going up,

Pressure&Tamps Adjustment,

Step 1: Select one Pre-Set Button(eg:10kg),

Step 2: Adjust the Pressure (2kg~38kg),

Step 3: Adjust the Tamp Times(1,2, or 3),

Step 4: Press Save/Clean Button(Dn-Up) To Save Changes.

Set The Value For 20kg,30kg Button,

Recheck The Pre-Set Value,

Press Each Pre-Set Button to Check Saved Value.

Active Record Function,

Step 1: Press & hold 10kg button and then press Dn-Up button,

Step 2: Press Up of the Pressure Button when the first number is flash,

Until the number shows 1 0 0 0（Reset 0 0 0 0 to Inactive Record Function),

Step 3: Press Dn-Up Button to save changes,

it means you have active the record function.

How To Check The Records,

Use PT2 to Tamp Coffee Several Times,

Check Records,

Press&hold 20kg button and then press Dn-Up button To check the records. (Press Dn-Up to exit),

In this video, you would see we tamp coffee 3 times, so PT2 records 3.

Clear Records,

Press&hold 30kg button and then press Dn-Up button,

To clear the records. (Press Dn-Up to exit),

We can Press&hold 20kg button and then press Dn-Up button,

To recheck if the records is 0. (Press Dn-Up to exit)

Normally Maintenance.

Step 1: Long Press Save&Clean Button(Dn-UP) Button,

Tamper Disk will going down to the lowest position.

Step 2: Use the tool to dismantle the portafilter supporter.

Step 3: dismantle the GLS-Guide Leveling System

(Tamper Disk, Dynamic balance bowl guide plate, Springs)

Step 4: Clean GLS Items With Brush.

Step 5: Install GLS Items.

Step 6: Long Press Save&Clean Button(Dn-UP).

Tamper Disk will going up to the highest position.

Step 7: Install and Adjust Portafilter Supporter.

Portafilter Supporter Adjustment.

Step 1: Release The Screw Of the Portafilter Supporter.

Step 2: Input Portafilter To Adjust The Supporter Position.

Step 3: Adjust The Supporter to The Nearest Lower-Line And Fix it.

Attention: During the fixation, please make sure the balance of the supporter, you can refer to the lines to fix it.

Segmented Multi Tamp Function Instruction,

You can adjust the first tamp pressures different with 2nd and 3rd tamps.

How Segment Multi Tamp Works?

Put the Portafilter Into PT2.

You would find the number on the screen shows 13 1,

it means the first tamp pressures is 13kg.

And the next twice is 33 2/3,

it means the tamp pressure is 33kg.

How to adjust Segment Multi Tamp?

Here is an example to Active Segment Multi Tamp For 10kg Button.

Step 1: Press 10kg button.

Step 2: Press&hold Down of Tamps Button and then press the Dn-Up button.

Step 3: When the first two numbers are flash, set the Pressure

by press Pressure(Up/Down) button (00 means cancel Segment Tamp).

Step 4: Press Dn-Up to Save Changes.

Active Segment Multi Tamp For 20kg Button.

Press 20kg button first, and then repeat operation to

set the Segment Tamp Pressure for 20kg button.

Active Segment Multi Tamp For 30kg Button.

Press 30kg button first, and then repeat operation to

set the Segment Tamp Pressure for 30kg button.

Check If These Value Saved Successfully for each button(10kg,20kg,30kg).

for 10kg button,

Press 10kg button first,

And then Press&hold Down of Tamps Button and then press the Dn-Up button to check the value on the screen.

If the value is correct.

Press Dn-Up to exit.

For 20kg button,

Press 20kg button, and repeat the operation to check Segment Pressure for it.

For 30kg button,

Press 30kg button, and repeat the operation to check Segment Pressure for it.
